What Are Image Guided Steroid Injections?

cover-steroid-syringe-300x200.tmb-mediumSteroid injections are commonly performed to reduce inflammation around a joint or tendon (arthritis, tendonitis). While some structures are easy to inject just by feel, other deeper structures may benefit from medical imaging (fluoroscopy or ultrasound) to help guide the needle tip into the correct spot. This helps to confirm the steroid is injected exactly where it is needed, and often makes the injection less painful since the surgeon is able to guide the needle tip right where it needs to go with less repositioning of the needle.
